“Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith, and the Executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service are extending condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of No. 16354 Acting Inspector Mukesh Sookram who died today,” according to the statement.
Mr. Sookram was admitted to the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility after becoming ill.
While seeking medical attention, he passed away.
He was most recently assigned to the NED as the Inspector in Charge of the Morvant Police Station.
Mr. Sookram joined the TTPS on April 8, 2002, and was promoted to Corporal in 2010, then to Sargeant in 2019, before taking on the position of Inspector earlier this year.
He spent a good chunk of his service in the NED, achieving two letters of commendation in 2005 and 2010 for his commitment and devotion to duty.
The senior officer also earned an Associate Degree in Management and a Diploma in Security Administration and Management.
He was also a gunsmith, a karate green belt, and an auto electrical and craft expert.
The officer was characterized as exemplary by Senior Superintendent of the NED, Winston Maharaj, who said he was “always professional and serving with extreme pride.”
“I have known Inspector Sookram to be an industrious and effective man, taking a very hands-on approach to police, since I met him,” Senior Superintendent Maharaj said. He was such a good team player and motivator for his junior officers.”
“At this time, his team is very traumatized by his passing,” he lamented.
