Residents of Stamford, England, contribute goods to St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Date:

It’s only been month since the La Soufrière volcano located on the Caribbean island region of St. Vincent and the Grenadines began erupting violently.

The explosions covered areas of the island in thick ash, destroying houses, affecting water sources, and wreaking havoc on the agriculture business.

Thousands continue to be in desperate need of humanitarian help.

Directly following the initial explosion, the Afro Caribbean Millennium Centre in Peterborough started gathering contributions.

The Stamford Anti-Racism Group (SARG) also got engaged soon after, taking donations from Stamford and the surrounding area, as Nub News had previously mentioned.

SARG Events Coordinator Yvette Diaz-Munoz (pictured on the right) said:” Some of our SARG members have family and friends in St Vincent including one of the artists, Tony Nero, and one of the musicians, Don Saunders aka King Don Steel Drums, who will both be taking part in our Stamford Diversity Festival “

Yvette a member of the community told that. they’ve received four carloads of contributions thus far, appreciating the locals for being kind and generous.

Maureen Nash is among the people organizing the drop-offs in Peterborough, along with other volunteers including Kenny Macdonald and Tony Francis.

It will be very appreciated if individuals were able to contribute what they can, according to her.
Maureen has been one of the Youth Leaders for Peterborough-based Culture Community, that is delivering Black History classes, about which SARG conducted an extensive Zoom session, as reported here.

The list of required goods has been revised. If you are able to give, please drop your donations off at the Millenium Centre, Dickens Street, from 11 a.m. in the morning to 8 p.m. in the evening, Monday through Saturday. For a pick up or drop off in the Stamford area you can contact Stamford Anti-Racism Group SARG on their Facebook or Instagram page or on their email at stamfordantiracismgroup@gmail.com.
