COVID-19’s Third Wave Could Be Deadly, According to Jamaica’s Chief Medical Officer
The risk of a third and deadlier wave of the COVID-19 virus has been raised in Jamaica.
With the country still reeling from the effects of the second wave, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton has warned that the possibility of a third wave should be viewed as a threat.
Although Jamaicans have accepted COVID-19 protocols and instituted rigorous precautions, he believes a third wave would be worse than the first two. “I just want to advise the public to see this as a continuing concern and the need for us to remain cautious until we can receive the long-term relief that we desire from the vaccine programmer and other measures,” he added.
If another wave of COVID-19 strikes Jamaica, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jaquiline Bisasor McKenzie has warned that cases might double and deaths might rise. The island has confirmed the detection of the UK version.
